A collection of essays offering an overview of Dead Sea Scrolls research, ranging from an examination of 'The Essenes in History' to a study of 'Biblical Proof-Texts in Qumran Literature'.
'Scholars who seek safe passage through the stormy seas of current 'revisionist' theories concerning the origins of the Dead Sea Scrolls will find this compact volume a delight. It provides a welcome and insightful evaluation of such opinions from a long-established Qumran scholar.' ~ Brian Capper, Vol 28.5, 2006 -- Brian Capper * Journal for the Study of the New Testament *
'[A] welcome addition...to the available literature on the Dead Sea Scrolls...This volume is well worth reading.' -- Alistair I. Wilson, Themelios, 32/1 * Themelios *
Geza Vermes was Professor Emeritus of Jewish Studies at the University of Oxford, UK and was one of the worlds greatest experts on the historical Jesus, Christian beginnings, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. With the publication of Jesus the Jew (1973) he introduced the idea of Jesus as a 1st century Jewish holy man to the general public. His book The Dead Sea Scrolls in English (1962) introduced the English reader to the Scrolls, going on to sell over half a million copies.
