Emanuel Swedenborg was born in 1688, and three hundred years on he is remembered mainly for his visionary insight and his theological writings. He was, however, a man with interests both worldly and other-worldly. His studies in physics, mineralogy, anatomy, psychology, and spiritualism all anticipated major modern discoveries well before their time. Arranged by subject and carefully explained, Swedenborg's work is finally accessible to the modern reader.
Editor Michael Stanley was born in England in 1936. His early career in physics brought him to Columbia University, New York, and then he was called to the ministry. He was Principal of New Church College (Swedenborgian), where he taught philosophy, psychology, and comparative religion. He has lectured widely in the UK, as well as in Australia and the United States.
