Description

Society's drive for technology that is faster and more efficient in processing and disseminating information is fueling changesespecially in academia. As the Internet becomes an important source for research, it challenges the library's role as the major information resource on campus. In order for libraries to respond to this challenge they must become agile in their adaptation of new technologies to meet the ever-changing needs and expectations of their users. This book discusses innovative and aggressive methods libraries can implement to become more agile. The seven chapters are written by library administrators who discuss their own experiences and cover topics including management, technology, services, users' needs and marketing the library.

Reviews

Creating the Agile Library deserves first place in the professional literature of academic librarianship. It has value both in theoretical and practical implications for management and technology, and would be an asset to information studies educators as well as interdisciplinary scholars. The selection is an uplifting one and defines the challenges of today's academic libraries in a holistic and "liberating" manner.-Asian Libraries
Creating the Agile Library is a concise and readable management guide for library administrators. I recommend Creating the Agile Library for all academic librarians.-Information Today http: //www.infotoday.com
The editors succeed in making us think about our libraries becoming proactive and vital organizations that are an integral part of acedemic life...The strenth of this volume is that it reminds us that we need to concentrate on our users...This book is both interesting and timely. It not only deals with issues we are now facing in academic libraries, but it also provides valuable insights on how we should design and evaluate the services we provide to our users.-Reference & User Services Quarterly
