Reviews

This book about journaling is a journal, specifically designed as a tool for the library media specialist. Introductory information explains the importance and purposes of journaling, and also explains differences between journal writing and keeping a diary (thoughts and feelings as opposed to a recording of daily events, respectively). There is space for focused writing, one or two days per page, every day of the year. General prompts are suggested in the introductory matter, and for each day there are all or some of the following: a quotation; writing prompt; media center tip; and/or notations of author's birthdays. Additionally, special days are noted, such as for May 2, which is 'Thank your School Librarian Day.' The quotations are thoughtful and/or inspirational. . . . Tips are useful advice or reminders, for example, a reminder to check copyright dates of science books, or a suggestion to have students submit jokes and display some of the best in the library. Thoughtful reflection and the act of actually writing ideas down can make them more authentic; this book helps provide both for the hectic professional life of the media specialist with benefits to the specialist and the media center.
