The most recent volume in this series maintains the standard of accuracy set by its predecessors. Foundation officials, historians, and others wrote the brief histories of the 234 largest active foundations in the United States, all with 1980-81 assets of $30 million or more. ... The histories recount the founder's purposes in creating the foundation, and describe each foundation's growth, funding activities, and governance. Recommended sources for additional information, typically annual reports and statements filed with the IRS, are also provided. ... Appendixes list the foundations by value of assets, family connection, location, founding date, and name changes. The index lists personal names, corporate names, and subjects. The subject entries lead to information about the foundations' attitudes towards certain types of beneficiaries.-Wilson Library Bulletin
