The rhyming words will appeal to young readers and the strategically placed "Teachable Moment" prompts support parents in having discussions about language, vocabulary, and shared experiences.

Teachers are encouraged to share Mornings With Mommy as a class read-aloud that discusses the Covid-19 pandemic and encourages quality time with family.

This book depicts an African-American family and a female narrator as the main character, which can encourage school libraries to be more inclusive and culturally responsive.

Author Bio

Astere Yemmer is a wife, mother, and educator with more than fourteen years of experience serving New York City youth and families. Astere is an avid reader, traveler, and lover of all things informational. Mornings With Mommy is her second published work, highlighting characters of color as well as sharing her family's experience during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is her hope that young people and their families utilize this text to open the door to conversations and dialogue that are important for cognitive growth and overall reading abilities.
