Common Core State Standards for Grade 6: Language Arts Instructional Strategies and Activities is designed to help teachers address Common Core standards using effective, research-based instructional strategies in combination with ready-to-use activities. These strategies include identifying similarities and differences, writing summaries and taking notes, creating non-linguistic representations, and suggestions for homework and practice. There are a variety of suggested texts as well as identified text exemplars that can easily be used with the strategies and activities.
I can see this book quickly becoming an indispensable resource for all reading and reading resource teachers! Manvilles vast experience as a curriculum director is easily evident in her book, which is jam-packed with hundreds of research-based activities aligned with the Common Core Standards that are teacher-friendly and are certain to engage todays learners. -- Sharon Sharp, Grades 5-8 curriculum director, Riverside Unified School District 114, Wathena, Kansas
I am excited to have Manvilles book as a rich resource for my teachers as we continue our transition to the CCSSs in our district. Teachers will immediately appreciate the multitude of activities, especially as they are asked this year to implement new activities on each under-touched Common Core standard and on standards on which students are underperforming. As the person responsible for curriculum and instruction, I can be confident that Manvilles laser-like attention to providing only research-based activities will help ensure success! -- Valerie Jones, MsEd., K-12 curriculum coordinator, East Buchanan C-1 Schools, Gower, Missouri
Classroom teachers and reading specialists will find these new resource books full of rich and targeted activities designed to strengthen students skills as they meet the requirements of the Common Core State Standards. Michelle Manville is a consummate professional Missouri educator who understands student needs and suggests effective strategies and literature to meet them. -- Sally Minnick, former northwest Missouri regional professional development communication arts instructional specialist
