Left brain meets right when your students use role-playing to illustrate science and math principles. This wonderful tool allows you to use your own creativity and knowledge of your class to adapt themes and activities. Reader's Theatre enforces national standards and works for students of all reading abilities. Grades 5-7.
Intended for middle school students, this resource is for classroom teachers who are looking for a venue to build math and science skills though reader's theatre. It is also a useful tool for developing students' reading comprehensive skills and vocabulary building. The book is divided into two sections; the first, math that contains six plays; the second, science that contains five plays. The plays reinforce national standards. The scripts, which are original works of the author, are on average 3 pages long and come complete with before and after reading activities that foster higher-level thinking skills. Another valuable feature that appears in the teacher guide that precedes each play is a vocabulary list with reproducible activities. A grading standard performance rubric for all the activities is located in the front of the book. The concise, easy-to-implement format makes efficient use of instructional time and will enhance any math and science curriculum while addressing the standards. Although the activities do not lend themselves to collaboration with the librarian, librarians would want to recommend the book to middle school math and science teachers. A great title to purchase for your professional collection. Highly Recommended. * Library Media Connection *
