Description

Concepts in this book constitute a framework for developing efficient school staff practices. The underlying premise addressed in this basic topic is built upon forming a responsive educational community of constituents in which all staff members focus on student learning as a priority. The first two chapters define human resource function as contrast them with the ideology of developing human capital. Chapters 3 through 5 cite specific suggested activities in the actual hiring process from the school building leader as well as district leadership. Chapters 6 through 8 deal with generic staffing practices such as basic supervision, working with the non-professional staff and evaluating staff members. In Chapter 9 the topic of training, improving, and retaining school staff is mentioned. The last chapter, highlights the most essential principles that surround building human capital.

Reviews

Successful School Staffing Strategies provides the perspective school building and district leaders with a comprehensive yet practical examination of school personnel management procedures. Concomitantly, it provides a framework for school building and district leaders in hiring personnel. The case studies serve as an invaluable tool to magnify the importance of developing strong personnel management skills. I believe this book will well support candidates in leadership programs by integrating human capital with the hiring process. Likewise, this book will enable school building leaders to make better informed decisions about personnel management. -- Kenneth Forman, Program Coordinator, Educational Leadership Program, Stony Brook University
As a school principal for a large urban middle school, I must say the definitions and compelling examples used in Successful School Staffing Strategies would help any school leader staff a school building with educators prepared to support their school environment. The examples cited are practical, realistic, and rational. -- Shannon Burton, Principal, Middle School PS 61, NYC Public Schools
In this invaluable and thoughtful book, Dr. Pregot illuminates key strategies and shares a road map on how to get the right people on board to move a school community. This is a must-read for school leaders and district administrators on how to fundamentally rethink school and district staffing in order to position students to achieve their full potential. -- Danika Lacrox, Principal, Young Scholars Academy of Discovery and Exploration (PS 636)
Successful School Staffing Strategies provides compelling and practical ways for Boards of Education and school district and building leaders to make the right hiring decisions to ensure that common goals and improved learning can be achieved.
