Description

The Value of Authentic Writing is a handbook for practicing teachers of all grade levels. It outlines the importance of authentic writing, as well as includes a detailed guide on how to publish student work and a unit plan with resources that walk students through the writing process. The Value of Authentic Writing allows teachers to help students create quality writing and become published authors. This handbook is divided into four sections: The Value of Authentic Writing, Publishing, Personal Narrative Unit Plan and Resources and Exemplars. The first section of this book synthesizes scholarly research on how authentic writing affects students' engagement levels, academic excellence, and empowers students in their learning. The second section outlines the different publishing options for student work, from online publications to self-publishing. This section also takes teachers through the pre and post publishing stages. The third section of the book is a detailed unit plan that guides teachers though lessons that help students in creating publishable personal narratives. Finally, the Resources and Exemplars section includes all original graphic organizers and handouts that accompany the lessons.
