Description

Each of the four volumes in this set, as well as each volume independently, provide comparative analyses for researches, practitioners, and students of the law and education in examining law and education in various countries around the world. Designed to allow readers to learn from, rather than copy, the legal and educational systems in these volumes, the books are designed to generate thought and conversation on how education can be improved around the world. By having chapter authors, leading academicians in the home countries, follow the same template so it can be easier to compare similarities and differences, thereby helping to make the book user friendly. The value of these books is that they should help to enhance international awareness of the similarities and advantages associated with bringing together knowledge from various countries concerning education law.

Volume 4, encompassing Selected Nations in Africa and the Americas, namely Brazil, Canada, Mauritius, United States, South Africa and Venezuela, consists of detailed analysis of educational law and systems in these representative countries so researchers and students there and elsewhere can learn from one another.

Reviews

For the past three decades, Charlie Russo has traveled the world offering an American perspective on education law and developing an encyclopedic knowledge of the countries he visited. This multi-volume collection draws on local experts to present one of the most comprehensive overviews of education law throughout the globe. For those lawyers and educational policy makers who wish to learn from the experience of other nations, this collection is indispensable. -- William E. Thro, Associate Professor of Constitutional Studies, Christopher Newport University
In this first book of its kind, Russo and contributors examines the legal issues in education that impact teachers and students in Africa and the Americas, while also analyzing other emerging topics related to safety and technology. Together, the education law systems in these nations allow for interesting analyses, with the hope to enhance a common understanding of the status of K-12 education throughout the world. -- Suzanne Eckes, JD, PhD, Susan S. Engeleiter Professor of Education Law, Policy and Practice, Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Former President, Education Law Association
Widely acknowledged as one of the foremost experts in the field of education law, Charles J. Russo again demonstrates with this volume why the Handbook of Comparative Education Law is the definitive series on law and education throughout the world. Volume four compares the law as it relates to education in Brazil, Canada, Mauritius, South Africa, the United States, and Venezuela. Institutional issues, faculty and student rights, and safety and liability concerns are among the many topics examined by Russo and a team of country-specific education law scholars. Researchers, educators, and attorneys interested in international education law will be hard pressed to find a more complete resource. -- Christine Kiracofe, Associate Professor of Leadership, Policy Studies and Higher Education at Purdue University; Co-editor of Education Law Into Practice
