Reviews

Dr. Marie Pagliaro has provided a how to resource to be utilized by teachers and other educational professionals that promises to enhance teacher effectiveness through the systematic implementation of best instructional practices. Rooted in current learning theory and research sourced, this practical guide provides the resources necessary for teachers to systematically improve their instruction resulting in student achievement growth. Best Practices Observation Instruments (BPOIs) developed by participants from across the education spectrum established criteria and resultant performance indicators which, when utilized, yield systematic improvement in teacher performance, the key variable in student success. Professionals are encouraged to work collaboratively to assess peer improvement through the analysis of BPOI data and through self-reflection. -- John M. Devine, EdM, professor emeritus, Department of Education and Educational Psychology, Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, CT
Dr. Marie Pagliaro presents an organized and comprehensive list of criteria necessary for meaningful, relevant instruction. If pre-service and in-service teachers refer to, reflect upon and follow the criteria presented, theyll have a blueprint for quality teaching. The book presents practical information based on solid research. Teachers and student teachers will be able to use the material immediately to impact positively on their students achievement. This book would be an excellent text for courses in methodology; it will guide the current and prospective teacher in all aspects of successful instruction. -- Rona Shaw, EdD, professor of special education and director of graduate education programs, Dominican College, Orangeburg, NY
