Description

As of spring 2015 in the states of New York, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin all pre-service teacher candidates are required to pass the Education Teaching Performance Assessment to earn initial teaching certification. California, Georgia, Ohio and Massachusetts are planning to adopt the edTPA while eighteen other states are considering adopting this policy in the near future. Beat the Test!: A Guidebook for Elementary Teacher Candidates is designed to assist elementary candidates with an educational methodology to pass the Education Teaching Performance Assessment. The methodology can be used to plan, implement, and assess student learning during instruction. Additionally, this method will assist elementary teacher candidates in using the Common Core Standards to design lessons to assess student learning while managing classroom instruction. Candidates who have used this method have successfully beat the tests.

Reviews

"Dr. Velsor has superbly and precisely integrated widely accepted essential elements, such as Bloom's Taxonomy, to form a simplified educational methodology to aid students in the construction of a successful edTPA portfolio." --Joseph Fiorita, teacher candidate

"Re-Engaging Students for Success provides a balance of instruction and step-by-step guidelines for the candidate preparing for the edTPA exam. The opportunity for prospective teachers to review and refer to some actual examples/responses from the perspective of a peer is extremely helpful and valuable. In addition, and most importantly, this book demonstrates for the candidate how to stimulate and enhance the"whole" child in every student in their classrooms, tending to their intellectual, emotional, social, and physical beings.

Through a focus onclear guidance, management and application, Re-Engaging Students for Success provides a solid model for approaching the edTPA exam and hope for all who strive to succeed." --Geraldine A. Faivre, adjunct professor, School of Education, SUNY College at Old Westbury; former head of Westbury Friends School, The East Woods Lower School, and The Jewish Academy

"In Re-Engaging Students for Success Dr. Velsor introduces a model for lesson planning that aligns with Common Core State Standards and encourages candidates to employ Bloom's Taxonomy within the planning, implementation, and assessment of lesson planning. She is something of a mentor, because in spite of being amongst the first graduating class to have edTPA implemented; she engrossed herself into this Teacher Performance Assessment and proved to be successful." --Elfrida Oni, teacher candidate
