Coeleen Kiebert, artist, teacher and psychologist, tells her story of discovery and synthesis. Building on C.G. Jung's discoveries, Coeleen presents methods to access the intelligence and emotional wisdom that rests in our deep unconscious, where the pursuit of creativity begins. This book is a manual of practical steps for developing creativity. It is also a thoughtful social commentary spanning decades and a reflection on concepts such as evil and the shadow.
An elegant art book of her paintings, drawings and sculptures, Art & Spirit is an invitation to embrace the how-to of creativity and realize the promise of its rewards.
This book is like a mentor for practicing art-making as a spiritual path, with a wealth of inspiration, personal stories, and exercises that keep me moving forward. I owe my professional life as an artist and teacher to this wisdom and these generous teachings. --Sara Swink, Artist, Teacher
Coeleen Kiebert, MS, artist and psychologist, has spent a lifetime studying ceramics and both the psychology of the creative person and the creative process. Born in Minnesota in 1932, Coeleen has degrees in Art Education from the University of Minnesota and a Masters in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. While raising four children, Coeleen has taught Art & Spirit workshops for decades. Her studies of the Creative Process also informed her work as an Organization Development consultant for nursing services nationwide. She is a scholar of C.G. Jung, Abraham Maslow and Frank Barron.
Coeleen's bronze sculptures are installed in the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, on the Pacific Garden Mall there, and at University of California, Santa Cruz in the Cowell Justice Courtyard and the Coeleen Kiebert Patio. Her previous publications include All of a Sudden, China Calls, ceramic articles in trade magazines, and booklets Personal Collage and How the Doodle Becomes a Great Work of Art. Now an elder and wise woman, Coeleen continues to sculpt, write and teach a new generation of artist-teachers in Aptos, California.
