Description

Instruction in the areas of professional organization, planning, and learning theory, especially as it pertains to precluding student disciplinary issues, has been diminished in most teacher preparation programs. High-Functioning Classrooms addresses those areas of concern by providing a rapid orientation, based on decades of practical experience, to ways in which a teacher can provide the structure and order which students crave and to work more efficiently. Designed to improve the organizational, planning, and instructional delivery skills of PK-12 classroom teachers, the approach and flow of the book takes classroom teachers through a chronological sequence of what to expect, how to properly prepare for such expected events, and how to learn from those experiences.

Reviews

Mark Marchese's High Functioning Classrooms presents a well documented educational path of straightforward and uncomplicated plans for classroom organization and management. Supported by research and layered with personal experiences, High Functioning Classrooms eliminates all the guesswork of classroom organization and is a must read for both budding and experienced teachers. -- Veronica Sedun, middle school language arts teacher
Starting with before the school year even begins, Dr. Marchese walks a new teacher through a detailed and prescribed plan to maximize their potential and give them the confidence to feel and act like a veteran master teacher. Dr. Marchese has done it all in the field of education and is well respected by his colleagues, school parents, and most importantly, his students. I highly recommend this book for any teacher that wants to refine their skills, organize their lessons, and bring out the very best in their students. -- Andy Nichols, principal, St. Anthony School
I wholeheartedly endorse Mark Marchese as a teacher and a mentor, whose practice has helped his colleagues as much as his students. His logical progression through the steps that strong educators need to think through as they plan their year will be a helpful guide to novice and veteran teachers alike. -- Maude Lamont, vice principal, Lincoln High School Portland, Oregon
Wow! What a find! I wish that Dr. Marchese's book had been available when I was a new teacher. So many of the hard decisions are made so easy to decide when you follow these steps. It is an inclusive philosophical guide to how to get through the first year and beyond to become the teacher you want to be. I am excited to share this book with my colleagues. -- David Raffetto, high school and community college Spanish teacher
