Description

Expanding a principal's formal education and training, The Principal as Learning-Leader is a administrator's guide to improving student achievement, showing practitioners how to focus on the individual academic performance of each and every student and to work with the school staff and community to develop a learning culture that supports student success.

Norton and Kelly show current principals how to assess their present behaviors relative to learning leadership. Providing a clear definition of learning leadership and identifying successful practices most commonly implemented by true learning leaders, this book features the administrative tools and accountability strategies that will allow principals to create a culture of learning leadership among all school personnel, which is key to engaging students, and the community, in the learning process.

Reviews

As a Superintendent of a public school district, and having taught numerous graduate level classes in Educational Leadership, I find this book provides a roadmap for developing leadership traits and values. I found this book to be a very good resource for practicing administrators. Your book will provide expertise in a variety of areas; such as preparing, equipping and enabling the administrators and staff for a learning-centered school; the importance of a healthy school environment for fostering student achievement; and how to plan, organize and implement effective programs of collaboration and partnerships to promote student learning. -- Jacob Chavez, superintendent, Cartwright Elementary School District, Phoenix Arizona

Authors Norton and Kelly have successfully identified and described the essential components that effective learning leaders use to translate their vision into successful student achievement. Current principals would be well served to use The Principal as a Learning Leader to monitor and adjust their own practices. Likewise the book should be a "must read" for aspiring principals passionate about advancing the "learning for all" mission. -- Lawrence W. Lezotte, educational consultant, Effective School Products Ltd
