This book provides an account of the history of Americas educational system since colonial times, with a focus on educational policies that have resulted in modern-day public education. Boyd Bradbury examines current problems associated with twenty-first century education and offers potential solutions. The author argues that traditional systems of education for the masses, although historically successful for many, has not provided equitable educational opportunities for all of those who reside in the United States. The book examines changing demographics that are magnifying inequities within the US educational system, as well as school choice, accountability, technology, mental health, financial constraints, the COVID-19 pandemic, and teacher shortages.
Boyd Bradbury is a professor of Educational Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction and Interim Dean of the College of Education & Human Services at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, USA.
