Now that the Lisbon Treaty has been finalized and signed, the next hot item on the European agenda is enlargement of the European Union. Federiga Bindi holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Political Integration at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she is founding director of the Jean Monnet European Center of Excellence. She is also professor at the Italian National School of Public Administration (SSPA) and a senior fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins SAIS. Irina Angelescu is a researcher with the Brookings Institution's Center on the United States and Europe.
