Description

This work examines Europe's future, analysing the deepest currents governing the evolution of Europe in relation to the interaction of culture and technology. The book describes the role of the European nation-states, regions and enterprises, and the European role vis-a-vis the USA and Japan. In addition, the text outlines the author's view of Europe's passage from the "industrial" to the "immaterial" age - the competitive parameter of Europe's future will be primarily that of culture, and the cultural attribute will define the profile of all European enterprises. Culture, knowledge and entertainment Moller argues, will take over as the engines of future economic development.

Reviews

"I found his manuscript to be a fascinating intellectual journey. He has a remarkable grasp of what the information revolution is about and how it is pervasively restructuring the world we live in. Many, like the Tofflers, have written in the popular literature about the power of this revolution, but few have had the breadth of background to explore with competence its ramifications across so many domains--military, political, social, and economic. There is something for everyone here who wants to peer into the future, whether they be technologist, politician, soldier, academic, or business person."-Carl H. Builder Senior RAND Research Analyst
"It...transcends the oft meaningless boundaries drawn between Europtimists and Euroskeptics and offers an interesting vision concerning the relationship between world, union, state, region, and the individual."- J.H.H. Weiler, Manley O. Hudson Professor of Law Codirector of the European Law Research Center, Harvard Law School
"The author traces the economic internationalization and cultural decentralization processes. This attempt gains credibility since he himself is involved personally in these processes. Such an attempt couldn't have been successful if written by an academic or anyone whose personal involvement is either limited or nonexistent."- Dr. Joseph M. Putti National University of Singapore
"This provocative volume combines the insights of a seasoned practitioner with a cogent analysis of European integration at a testing period of change. Moller ranges very widely in his quest for explanations for the challenges facing us over the next decade. His optimism about the capacity of the European Union to respond positively to these challenges is very refreshing."- Professor Helen Wallace Sussex European Institute, University of Sussex
