Building upon Mitchell's earlier work, The Structure of International Conflict, this volume surveys the field of conflict analysis and resolution in the twenty-first century, exploring the methods which people have sought to mitigate destructive processes including the creative and innovative new ways of resolving insoluble disputes.
The Nature of Intractable Conflict is a valuable compendium, enriched by Mitchells pursuit of distilling relevant but over-researched topics. Moreover, his own insights scattered throughout the text links his survey of the subject of intractability with emerging trends in current scholarship, which makes this book a relevant signpost in new research.
