This novel is a tale of political intrigue which begins and is centered in Michigan's rural Upper Peninsula. It traces the spiritually inspired journey of a First American woman from her childhood days traveling with her parents to environmental rallies to becoming a key political figure in deciding the outcome of the 2024 Presidential election.
Her journey is shaped by her First American heritage, the tribal casinos that populate the Upper Peninsula, and most importantly the waves of Gitchee Gumee (Lake Superior), which pull her away from the comfort of her bucolic life and eventually carry her to the highest corridors of political power.
The political lessons Evangeline learns morphing from her role as an environmental activist to a member of Congress are harsh ones, as she suffers painful losses during her journey, However, her political education from the campaign trail and her spiritual faith serves her well, as it prepares her to make the most consequential national political decision any member of Congress has ever had to make.
James Hill was born and spent his early adult life in Michigan's rural Upper Peninsula. Growing up in a small town within a one-hour drive of three of the five Great Lakes, he developed a love of northern Michigan that stayed with him, even after he left for college and then to Washington D.C. to pursue his other passion, politics.
Working for the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, he developed a keen instinct for politics and political processes. He returned to Michigan as a university professor and a political consultant for several state and federal campaigns.
Dr. Hill was a political science professor for over three decades, researching and publishing academic articles on environmental politics. Upon his retirement, he and his wife Kathy moved to the Chicago area.
Hill holds a B. A. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University, an MPA from Harvard University, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
