Au Qubec, on observe lexistence dun cosystme despaces sociaux o, en dehors des programmes formels dducation civique, les jeunes ont loccasion dapprendre participer la vie dmocratique. Cet ouvrage rassemble sept tudes de cas documentant les expriences dducation la citoyennet vcues par ces jeunes. La recherche qui sous-tend cet ouvrage est base sur une approche ethnographique et a t mene en collaboration avec sept organisations. Fruit dune approche conceptuelle et mthodologique originale, cet ouvrage intressera le monde de la recherche, de la pratique, des politiques communautaires et de la jeunesse.

Une analyse approfondie de la citoyennet des enfants et des adolescents, ainsi que des discours ducatifs sur la citoyennet dmocratique.

Cet ouvrage prsente les rsultats dun projet de recherche collaboratif dans le cadre duquel notre quipe a ralis un travail de terrain ethnographique multisite dans sept organisations de la socit civile qubcoise. Nous avons observ, analys et compar une diversit de pratiques innovantes dducation la citoyennet destines aux jeunes dans ces tiers lieux dducation la citoyennet, cest--dire des espaces de socialisation diffrents de lcole et de la famille. Dun point de vue thorique, louvrage propose une analyse approfondie de la citoyennet des enfants et des adolescents, ainsi que des discours ducatifs sur la citoyennet dmocratique.

Ax sur la prsentation dtudes de cas, louvrage rvle la diversit des expriences formatives offertes aux jeunes Qubcois. La mise en commun des analyses de cas conduit une rflexion fconde sur lducation la citoyennet dmocratique travers une pluralit de pratiques dexprimentation citoyenne ancres dans la dfense des droits de lenfant, laction sociale fministe, le mouvement communautaire, laltermondialisme et laction publique municipale et scolaire.
Par son vocabulaire conceptuel original et son approche mthodologique qualitative, cet ouvrage contribuera repousser les frontires golinguistiques et disciplinaires qui sparent souvent les courants de recherche lis de prs ou de loin lengagement et la participation sociale et politique des jeunes. Rdig dans un style accessible, il sadresse un large public, notamment au personnel des organisations de jeunesse, aux tudiants de troisime cycle, au secteur de la politique de la jeunesse et toute personne intresse par les questions relatives la citoyennet des jeunes au 21e sicle.

Author Bio

Sophie Thwissen-LeBlanc (Contributor)
Sophie Thwissen-LeBlanc holds a Masters degree in Womens Studies from the University of Ottawa. Her masters thesis focused on citizenship education for adolescent girls and young women in a Montreal-area feminist organization, the results of which were published in the journal Recherches fministes. She has contributed to several research projects on youth, gender, media and citizenship as a research assistant or professional.

Brieg Capitaine (Contributor)
Brieg Capitaine is Associate Professor at the University of Ottawas School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies. He holds a doctorate in sociology from the cole des hautes tudes en sciences sociales (Paris), and is interested in the civil sphere and social movements. He coordinated the book Mouvements sociaux. Quand le sujet devient acteur (ditions de la FMSH, 2016) and, with Geoffrey Pleyers, the special issue Jeunes alteractivistes : dautres manires de faire de la politique in the journal Agora Dbats/Jeunesses.

Hrold Constant (Contributor)
Hrold Constant holds a masters degree in sociology from the University of Ottawa. His thesis focuses on the relationship to work of immigrants of Haitian origin. He collaborated on the research partnership as a research assistant.

Alexandre Cournoyer (Contributor)
Alexandre Cournoyer holds a masters degree in sociology from the University of Ottawa. His thesis focuses on the social and political participation of young adults. He collaborated on the research partnership as a research assistant.

Emilie Drapeau (Contributor)
Emilie Drapeau is a PhD student at the University of Ottawas School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies. Her research focuses on conjugal commitment, which she situates at the crossroads of the sociologies of the family, the couple, youth, life courses and religion. She collaborated on the research partnership as research assistant and research coordinator.

Marive Forest (Contributor)
Marive Forest is a visiting professor at the University of Ottawas School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies and a researcher affiliated with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities (CIRCEM). She is also President and Senior Researcher at Sociopol, a company specializing in applied social research, consulting and collective support. As a researcher, she specializes in public decision-making, social policies related to official languages, social change and citizenship education.

Maxime Goulet-Langlois (Contributor)
Maxime Goulet-Langlois is a researcher-practitioner with a passion for philosophical practices and popular education, currently completing a PhD in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University. His research interests concern the professional development infrastructures by which third-sector practitioners inform their analyses of social problems. He is also a lecturer at HEC Montral, where he teaches program evaluation.

Franois Marchand (Contributor)
Franois Marchand has been a social worker since 2007 (Universit du Qubec en Outaouais), focusing on community action and organization. He became interested in public participation in Quebecs sociosanitary institutions as part of a masters degree in political science at the University of Ottawa (2015). He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in sociology, where he is studying childrens social participation (University of Ottawa).

Stphanie Gaudet (Editor)
Stphanie Gaudet is Full Professor and Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities (CIRCEM) at the University of Ottawa. She works on social and political participation, particularly that of young people, life courses and qualitative methodology. She leads a partnership research project (SSHRC) on citizenship education experiences in community and associative settings (educationetdemocratie.ca) and a research project on youth social and political engagement pathways (SSHRC).

Caroline Caron (Editor)
Caroline Caron is Full Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the Universit du Qubec en Outaouais. She specializes in gender relations in media and communication, as well as the study of youth media and forms of civic engagement practiced by adolescents through digital communication tools. Her recent research is among the pioneering work to document the civic uses of videoblogging among young YouTube users in the Canadian context.
