Description

Using myths, fairy tales, and zodiacal signs, renowned astrologer and Jungian analyst Liz Greene takes readers on a journey exploring the role of fate in the psychological processes of personal self-realization.

Why has the concept offatebecome so offensive to the modern Western reader Why does it imply for us a lack of free will, a loss of control, a sense of powerlessness, humiliation and impotence Why has the meaning of fate become so disconnected from its sister concept, karma

In this masterwork,Liz Greene confronts and questions the issue of fate head-on andits relationship to astrology, and renders a broader perception of just what fate is: an unfoldment of natural processes rather than predestined or preordained events in the individuals life. Greene argues that we have lost touch with nature and natural law, and that understanding our fate is understanding our relationship to the natural laws of the universe.

Whenever there is a concern with fate, there is also a concern with astrology, for the concept of fate evolves from a vision of an orderly interconnected cosmos. Through the use of myth, legend, dreams, fairy tale, and literature, Greene amplifies the meaning of fate and of astrological transits and natural configurations. She explores the Zodiacal signs as portraying a mythical journey, the hero journey, wherein the mythic meanings are connected to the individuals fate.

Reviews

"In astrology we are constantly confronted by the question of how free will intersects with fate. Through hypnotic prose, Liz Greene explores this and other deep questions providing profound insight into the dilemmas of the modern self. Her ability to weave psychology, myth, astrological history, and client stories into a compelling read is unsurpassed. Her work is foundational to anyone who wants to grasp the power, complexity, and moral beauty of astrology. It is my honor to recommend Liz Greene's The Astrology of Fate." --Jennifer Freed, PhD, author of A Map to Your Soul and Use Your Planets Wisely

"Liz Greene's astonishingly lucid mind has for half a century lent dignity and unassailable intellectual plausibility to astrology. The Astrology of Fate is her tour de force." --Steven Forrest, author of The Inner Sky

"The Astrology of Fate combines erudition with accessibility in Liz Greene's unique style. It explores the nature and claims of modern astrology regarding time and fate by embedding them firmly in their historical and textual roots, from Plato through Marsilio Ficino to Carl Jung. Greene ranges across myths, fairy tales, and stories, seeking out narratives and themes that can shed light on astrological symbolism, drawing on examples from her own experience along with her observations of clients and case studies. She takes the classical paradox of time, namely that in a universe in which we often appear to be guided by destiny, our ability to make choices is enhanced by self-reflection. She then explores how astrology has long been used as a path to self-awareness or to a form of inner alchemical transformation. This book should be an essential item on the reading list of every student of astrology and of everyone who wants to know how astrologers think." --Dr. Nicholas Campion, Sophia Centre, University of Wales Trinity Saint David
