This bibliography is a current source of information for researchers, practitioners, and planners interested in the older volunteer. The authors conducted an extensive search of material on the older volunteer, with emphasis on those works published between 1980 and 1991. After identifying approximately 700 sources, the authors selected nearly 400 for inclusion in this reference. The entries are grouped in seven topical chapters, and each entry includes a succinct annotation. Included are entries for books and articles on particular programs, characteristics of older volunteers, sources of statistical information, empirical research, and special population groups. Author and subject indexes conclude the work.
Researchers and practitioners will find this book to be extremely useful for reviewing recent literature on a wide variety of topics related to the older volunteer. The excellent organization, clear and descriptive annotations, useful indexes, and wide coverage of works from various academic and professional disciplines will aid persons who desire to know what research has been completed and where gaps in our knowledge exist. This book is an excellent source for all of us--students, researchers, practitioners, and policy makers--who wish to have an up-to-date compilation of annotated references on the older volunteer.-Clinical Gerontologist
The organization of the book is very effective and the annotations are written to provide sufficient information for the researcher to be able to determine whether it is necessary to go to the original source. Particularly helpful are the subject index, the author index and an excellent cross-reference system. This volume makes a valuable contribution for researchers, educators, service providers as well as older volunteers. For researchers, it provides the resource to avoid duplication of effort, ignorance of effective programming and poor resource allocation.-Journal of Teaching in Social Work
