This book is a collection of the most important writings of Robert Owen, the new Lanark Mill owner, social philosopher and founder of the early Victorian cooperative movement. This edition of the original texts contains his most influential works, "A New View of Society" and "Report to the County of Lanark", but also his "Observations of the Effects of the Manufacturing System", his prescriptive texts for a new moral order, and his lectures on religion, poverty and education.
Robert Owen (1771-1858) was one of the greatest of British social reformers. George Claeys received his PhD from the University of Cambridge and is now Associate Professor of History at Washington University.
