This is an engaging, richly illustrated book that is both a study of fashions in Chinese history and a history of China in the last half millennium told as the story of Chinese fashions. From retro hats in the sixteenth century through to the 1930s qipao and the 1950s Lenin suit, garments and accessories as described or depicted by people of those times are used to shed light on the historical meaning of fashion and fashions in China.
