Description

An international perspective on the resurgence in feminist movements: the advances and the setbacks, the challenges and the contradictions

We were supposed to be in a 'postfeminist'age. But recently we've seen a resurgence of feminist campaigningamong women (and some men). There's a new brand of feminism: young, socialmediasavvy, militant. Butthere's a new kind of backlash, driven by socalledfundamentalists and by increasingly overt misogyny.

Nikki van der Gaagis an independent consultant and writer who works primarily on gender. She is the author ofThe No-Nonsense Guide to Women's Rights,Feminism and Men, and theState of the World's Girlsreports published by Plan International.

Reviews

`Informative and concise. Let us take inspiration and create a fairer, more feminist 21st century. Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director, Oxfam International; 'This brief primer is as grounded and accessible as the movement itself. Its about time!' Michael Kimmel, SUNY Distinguished Professor of Sociology; 'A must-read for all who want to understand and join the fight for womens equality.' Mari Marcel Thekaekara, writer, campaigner and activist; 'Very up-to-date, with a useful `very brief history of feminisms, this is a quick read which should lead on to more detailed reading elsewhere (there are plenty of references). Recommended.' Peace News
