The innocent victims of violent crime are often old, frail and defenceless. Beaten up in their own homes, sometimes for no more than the week's pension money, they are society's neglected sufferers. Passionately indignant at their plight, Joan Jonker founded "Victims of Violence" to redress the balance. Here she tells of how she gathered support, of her television confrontations with Lord Longford and Robert Kilroy-Silk, of how she battled her way to public attention and established two unique shelters in Liverpool for those temporarily unable to face the world again.
Joan Jonker was born and bred in Liverpool. She founded the charity-run organisation Victims of Violence and she lives in Southport with her son. She has two sons and two grandsons.
