Caribbeans and Caribbean Americans who have made significant contributions to their society and often beyond are celebrated here in the first major biographical dictionary devoted exclusively to them. The authors have included more than 170 profiles of historical and contemporary figures from every Caribbean island, the United States, and even England and Canada, and diverse fields of endeavor, from actors to sports figures. Selection criteria included the notable demonstrating a Caribbean ethos or style and having a lasting and novel impact. Narrative entries discuss family background, education, challenges, and achievements.

The authors have provided a valuable resource with this, the first biographical dictionary to be dedicated entirely to Caribbeans and Caribbean Americans who have excelled in a variety of fields and have had an impact on the region....This text will serve as an inspiration to young Caribbeans who will now be able to read about a large number of role models. The fact that all these biographies can now be found under one cover highlights the impressive caliber of so many who hail from that region, also enhancing its inspirational value to this and future generations.
