In 2016, the first female major party candidate for president, Hillary Clinton, lost to Donald Trump. Since that time, we have seen a resurgence of feminist movement-building, starting with the Womens March in January 2017 and continuing with the historic numbers of women elected to Virginias legislative body in November 2017, an election considered by many to be one of the first referendums on Trumps presidency.

While thats the highest proportion yet, it still means in a nation thats majority female, less than 1 in 5 of our Congressional representatives are women. Holly Blake and Melissa Ooten have worked for more than thirty years, collectively, with WILL*, a program that connects women, gender, and sexuality studies with feminist leadership and activism, at the University of Richmond.
