Manly P. Hallswas a lifelong lover and scholar of ancient philosophies and mystic teachings. After the 1928 publication of his bookThe Secret Teachings of All Ages, Halls became known as an interpreter of ancient writings and gave lectures on subject pertaining to the occult and esoteric studies across the country. Halls also founded the Philosophical Research Society (PRS) in Los Angeles in 1934. Halls became a high-ranking Mason and traveled Europe collecting rare books and manuscripts on alchemy and other subjects, some of which were left to the PRS after his death in 1990.
