This volume provides information on the urban experience in Latin America. Following a general overview, the work includes chapters devoted to urbanisation in specific countries. Each chapter begins with an introduction providing geographic information and a survey of the nation's urban development, and then includes historical profiles of 90 selected cities, as well as maps. Thus, the work provides both national and city-specific perspectives. Chapters also provide a list of bibliographic resources.
For a wealth of information on the growth of both countries and their urban centers, this is indispensable. Recommended for all history reference collections supporting research on Latin America.-Reference Book Review
This is a volume for scholars working in the field and for use as a reference by others with a need to know the present or past population of almost any Latin American city of any size. This is a useful book for reference libraries and any others with a Latin American specialty or interest.-ARBA 95
