Although this is certainly not the first bibliography devoted to Mexican-American history, Meier has compiled by far the most comprehensive resource (for English-language sources) to date. A particular strength of the work is the extensive list of obscure masters theses and dissertations. Meier also provides a list of 200 bibliographies and guides; 68 special collections, archives, and libraries devoted to Mexican-American history; and 69 journals that regularly publish articles on this theme. About 70 percent of the sources are briefly annotated. Helpful subject and author indexes offer easy access to the sources. Since this bibliography is almost entirely devoted to English-language materials, it will be an extremely useful guide for undergraduate term papers and a starting point for graduate student and faculty research projects.-Choice
