This was obviously a labor of love for the author. Libraries large and small will find it a major ready-reference source on historic women in America. Library Journal
Tinling describes monuments, parks, buildings, statues, towns, and counties in the US that commemorate women's contribution to history. The intent is to illuminate feminist history. Arrangement is by region, by states within regions, then alphabetically by location. Only women who have made memorable contributions on their own (not as wives of prominent men) and are no longer living are included.... Sources for further readings are listed at the end of each state's entry. The guide is enhanced by a bibliographic essay, an index, a classified list of women by occupation or contribution, and a chronology of significant dates in women's history. Recommended for women's studies collections as well as local history and travel collections in academic or public libraries.-Choice
Women Remembered is a directory of more than 2,000 monuments to women in American history, including statues, tablets, named buildings and structures, and roadside markers. It is intended as a guidebook to the tangible reminders of the role of women in our nation's history. The author has used several different selection criteria in determining which memorials to include. The women represented have all made a significant contribution to society, displayed acts of heroism, or were participants in a historic event.... From the Eleanor Roosevelt home in New York to the Kate Shelley Bridge in Iowa to the Amelia Earhart tablet on Diamond Head, Hawaii, the contributions of women of all walks of life are indexed in this source ... it provides a good start toward preserving the efforts of women from generations past and will be useful in public and academic libraries.-Reference Books Bulletin
Written as a travel guide to the landmarks and memorials dedicated to American women, this book will receive more frequent use as source of brief biographical information on hundreds of famous and obscure historical figures. It is arranged by geographic section of the country, and then by state, city, and personal name. Each entry is from one to four paragraphs long, concentrating on the accomplishments that prompted the creation of the landmark. At the end of each state listing are broadranging and up-to-date bibliographic notes, and a general bibliographic essay on women's studies concludes the book. This was obviously a labor of love for the author. Libraries large and small will find it a major ready-reference source on historic women in America.-Library Journal
