Renowned aviation author and artist, John Weal, presents the last volume of Fw 190 Aces not previously covered in the Aircraft of the Aces series. From mid-1942 until the end of the war, German fighter pilots were deployed in the defence of the homeland in an effort to halt the near-constant bombing raids by Britain and America. This book tells their story, from the moment when the Luftwaffe began to retreat to the dying days of the Reich. Using previously unpublished photographs, this book charts the story of the men who earned their status as aces while fighting a hopeless battle to protect the land and the people they loved.
"For the modeler, the book presents a lot of information, including 32 color profiles with lengthy explanations in the appendix. For the historian, a graphic account of the campaign is given, along with reasons for the outcome ... Don't miss out on this one. It's a keeper. Highly recommended." --Brian R. Baker, IPMS/USA
"Whether you are a historian or modeler, Fw 190 Defence of the Reich Aces is certain to please you. With the amount of authoritative detailed information, clarity of delivery, and abundance of outstanding photographs and images, I absolutely recommend this book!" --Frederick Boucher, AeroScale
"There is no other narrowed focus of the FW 190 aircraft, making this a special pick that blends previously unpublished photos with aviation and military history key to any aviation or military library." --The Midwest Book Review
John Weal is Osprey's primary Luftwaffe author and artist. He possesses one of the largest private collections of original German-language literature from World War 2 and his research is based on this huge archive. Fluent in German, Weal has spent much time establishing contact with ex-members of the Luftwaffe, from General Staff Officers of the RLM to frontline aircrew. A freelance airbrush artist since the days of the monthly RAF Flying Review, he has illustrated some of the finest Luftwaffe profiles to date.
