This volume details the various UN peace keeping operations around the globe from 194894, which have seen UN forces deployed in almost every corner of the world Africa (Namibia and Somalia), South America (El Salvador), the Middle East (Cyprus, Sinai, Golan Heights, Lebanon and Kuwait), the Far East (Cambodia and Korea) and Europe (Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia). In addition two major wars have been fought under the banner of the United Nations The Korean War and the Gulf War. A huge number of nations have contributed troops to these various efforts, with the result that the UN forces are extremely varied and colourful. The vast variety uniforms and insignia are illustrated in twelve full page colour plates.
Robert Pitta has been a writer and editor in the Defence/Aerospace industry for over 16 years. He is a former professional photographer and holds an advanced university degree. He has given lectures to the military and written on the history, development, and use of camouflage clothing and concealment techniques. He lives and works in Maryland, USA. Simon McCouaig is rapidly establishing himself as one of the bright new stars of modern military illustration. He has already illustrated several Men-at-Arms and Elite volumes including the well respected Elite 33: South-East Asian Special Forces.
