Cliff Jones was a key part of Tottenham's famous and much-loved Double winning side of 1961. Tremendously quick, a great crosser, and a brilliant header of the ball, Cliff was considered to be the best left winger in the world in his pomp. This is his story. How he rose through the ranks to play for his home town team, Swansea Town, as a 17 year old, his move to Tottenham Hotspur and development under the tutelage of Bill Nicholson, the famous 1960/61 Double, European success and his near move to Juventus. Through it all he proudly represented Wales and played in the 1958 World Cup where an injury ravaged side lost to Brasil and a young Pele in the Quarter Finals. Charming, engaging and always smiling, Cliff is still a well-recognised figure at White Hart Lane where he works as an ambassador for the club.
Cliff Jones was born in Swansea and signed for his hometown club while working at the local docks. A proud Welshman he played 59 times for his country and in 1958 he played in the World Cup against Pele. He moved to Tottenham for a British record fee of 35,000 and became a fully-fledged star - famously being part of the team that won the League and FA Cup double in 1960/61. He later lifted the European Cup Winner Cup and played over 400 times for the North London side.
