Julie Welch was brought up in Loughton, Essex, and educated at Bristol University and The Observer sports department, where she was an award-winning football reporter. As well as working for most national newspapers, she wrote the screenplay for the acclaimed film, Those Glory Glory Days, about her childhood passion for the Tottenham Hotspur Double-winning team of 1960/61.
