This memoir details much of my hunting life from the first day I was in the woods with gun in hand. That was 55 years ago. I am just as excited about hunting today as I was on that first day at 15 years old. I have hunted much of North America and I was fortunate enough to make one trip to South Africa. The book includes stories of game taken with bow, rifle, and muzzleloader. The stories are honest re-creations of my hunts with family and friends. You will read about successes and the many failures. You will read about my greatest hunting success. The early hunts were mostly self-guided which is the harder way to do a hunt but by far the most rewarding. You will read about good outfitters and some not so good. I am a gun collector and dealer. I explain what firearms interest me and discuss firearms in my collection. I have restored firearms for the last 25 years. I am accomplished at rust bluing and stock restoration. I discuss the three rules I use to pick a good candidate for firearm restoration. I have provided detailed pictures of a few of my restorations.
I am the eldest of five children. I grew up in southern Maine. We were not a wealthy family but rich when money is taken out of the equation. I grew up in the country playing sports, hunting, and fishing. I am a Navy veteran and Civil Service retiree. I am a dealer and collector of firearms. I am an accomplished restorer of firearms focused on rust bluing and stock restoration using only hand methods. I built most of my house myself. I designed and built a timber frame addition to my house by the traditional mortise and tenon method. I am a father of two sons and I have three beautiful grandchildren. I have a lovely lady as my life partner.
