For more than twenty years, Growing Media for Ornamental Plants and Turf has been a core text for students of horticulture and an essential reference for practicing horticulturists, their suppliers, green keepers, landscape gardeners and designers. With 42 new illustrations, this edition has been substantially revised and updated to include the latest advances in horticultural production systems, with significant revisions to chapters on fertiliser practice in nurseries, foundations for good turf, managing turf soil, fertilising turf irrigation, and drainage. Includes discussion on roof gardens and vertical gardens; topics on recycled water for irrigation and issues of water shortage have been expanded.
Kevin Handreck is the managing director of Netherwood Horticultural Consultants in Adelaide, New South Wales. He chaired the committees that set the Australian standard for potting mixes, composts, soil conditioners, mulches, and soils for landscaping and garden use. He was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1982 and the Nursery Industry Association of Australia Award of Merit in 1990. Neil Black is a retired teacher of horticulture and the recipient of the 2006 Australia Day Honours award for services to education.
