Gianfranco Ferre (August 15, 1944 - June 17, 2007) received a degree in architecture in 1969 at the Politecnico University in Milan. These studies surely contributed to his personal design methodology, one having little in common with traditional systems in use at dress ateliers and clothing factories. He was one of the greats of Italian fashion, a leading figure during that magic moment when the Made in Italy concept (synonymous with supreme quality, creativity and style) began capturing imaginations worldwide. People still talk about those days with interest and awe. This monograph can represent a serious reflection on and an accurate analysis of that period up till now lacking might prove useful at this time of crisis.
The journalist Rita Airaghi is director of the Fondazione Gianfranco Ferr. Luca Stoppini is art director of Vogue Italia.
