The Bloomsbury Handbook of Popular Music and Youth Culture provides a comprehensive and fully up-to-date overview of key themes and debates relating to the academic study of popular music and youth culture. While this is a highly popular and rapidly expanding field of research, there currently exists no single-source reference book for those interested in this topic. The handbook is comprised of 32 original chapters written by leading authors in the field of popular music and youth culture and covers a range of topics including: theory; method; historical perspectives; genre; audience; media; globalization; ageing and generation.
Given the growing academic interest in popular music and youth culture, this handbook is an essential 'way in' for both students and academics. Edited by an internationally renowned scholar, the handbook explores how research into the meanings, media, contexts and cultural experiences of young people shaped and are shaped by the world we all live in. * Matthew Worley, Professor of Modern History, University of Reading, UK *
The study of popular music and youth culture has just received a major new platform. This wide-ranging Handbook expertly brings together into one place and critically examines the rich bodies of ideas and histories that continue to shape the field. A most welcome and essential resource. * Eric Charry, Professor of Music, Wesleyan University, USA *
