The song Leadman is a tribute to Mr. Nelson Mandela, and Leadman is an anagram for Mandela.

It was written while he was imprisoned in a South African jail and is a testimony to his resiliency.

Author Bio

John V. Miller is a pianist, composer, arranger, vocal coach and piano instructor. He has been studying and playing the piano for 80 years.

He was the pianist and keyboard player for the Stanley Turrentine band for18 years and performed on four of his recordings during that time.

After leaving the band he enrolled in grad school and earned a Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching from Lehman College in New York.

He taught in the Nassau County, Suffollk County, New York City, and Arsdale Public School Systems for a number of years while taking graduate courses in Jazz Studies at Queens College.

After relocating to Atlanta, Ga. he enrolled in the Masters of Jazz Program at Georgia State University where he created this book of Jazz Etudes at the encouragement of his Piano Instructor Professor Kevin Bales.

John is a member of the First Congregational Church of Atlanta located at 105 Courtland St. in downtown Atlanta near the campus of Georgia State University. The Senior Pastor is Rev. Dr. Dwight D. Andrews.

He sings bass in the Chancel Choir, plays handbells in the Handbell Ensemble, is the accompanist and bass singer for the Atlanta Jazz Chorus, and is the pianist and team arranger for the 3rd Sunday Band which performs every 3rd Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. service.
