This book examines the elements of desire as expressed through the lyrics of the female subjects of Bangla (Bengali) folk songs, in particular Bhawaiya folk songs, which are popular in Bengali-speaking areas in India and Bangladesh, by tracing the construction of the perils and pleasures of sexual subjectivity.
