De Lerma has gathered a great deal of valuable material on Afro-American music in the second volume of his Bibliography of Black Music, which he has organized into types or "idioms." The eleven categories include general histories, minstrelsy, spirituals and earlier folk music, ragtime, musical theater, concert music, band and gospel music, blues, jazz, and rhythm and blues and other popular music. Much of the material is not duplicated in the bibliographies of major monographs on the various idioms....and could prove quite useful to researchers in compiling comprehensive lists of sources in their subject.-Choice
