Ferguson is the author of several other books, among them, Masterworks of the Orchestral Repertiore: A Guide for Listeners and Image and Structure in Chamber Music, both published by the University of Minnesota Press. He was a professor of music at the University of Minnesota and at Macalester College and had also taught at Boston University and Montana State University.
