Description

John Drummond, one of the great post-war impresarios, made two documentary films on Diaghilev in the 1960s for the BBC. Many of the protagonists of the Ballets Russes were still alive, and Drummond interviewed more than twenty of them, including Karsavina, Massine, Ninette de Valois and Marie Rambert. What emerges from this book is an extraordinary picture of an extraordinary man, told with passionate advocacy and placed in the context of the author's own intense commitment to the arts.

Author Bio

He was Director of the Edinburgh International Festival for five years, and Director of the Promenade Concerts for ten seasons.
