Description

A reference guide to the Swedish and Finnish directors, screenwriters, actors, actresses and films from the silent film era to the 1990s. Both well-known and other important but less-known persons and films are included. It is divided into two sections, one devoted to the Swedish entries and the other to the Finnish entries. An introduction to each section overviews the developments and trends in that particular country's film industry. The entries are alphabetically arranged and include brief bibliographies and filmographies.

Reviews

[E]xcellent general guide...The work is useful because is draws together so much current information in English in one place; it is outstanding because of Qvist's focus on social history in his account of the Swedish film industry, his discussion in the filmographies of the films' reception, and his bibliographies' evaluative annotations, so extrodinarily helpful to novice researchers...For academic and large public libraries.-Choice
Together, Qvist and von Bagh present a much-needed overview of their nations's cinema and provide a handy guide to the major players in the Swedish and Finnish industries.-American Reference Books Annual
