Since its first presentation of Twelfth Night in 1932, Londons most famous al fresco theatre has wowed millions of playgoers with its dazzling productions and pastoral charm. Originally inspired by the desire to stage Shakespeare in the open air, the Park now also presents musicals, studio plays and concerts. A remarkable roll call of stars has acted on the Parks turf bank stage, from Vivien Leigh to Judi Dench, from Robert Stephens to Ralph Fiennes. The unique experience of watching a play at the Open Air Theatre, Regents Park has been described as eccentric, imaginative, magical, unpredictable, charming and chilly! This celebration of the Park, published for its 75th anniversary, tells the story of one of Britains best loved theatres.
David Conville has worked as an actor and theatre director. He started producing work at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in 1962, and founded the New Shakespeare Company in 1963.
