Description

The metal scene is known for its love of dark, depressing and disturbing imagery and ideas, and its fans are often mischaracterised as violent, hateful and misanthropic. Metal Cats is hard evidence that while the music may be brutal, the people in the scene are softies for their pets just like everyone else.

Reviews

"Metal Cats proves these necromancing rockers love their kitties as much as you and I...It's pretty much impossible not to get behind the feel-good, communal nature of this project."
-Wired.com

"Crockett noticed the strong bond, and interesting dynamic, between men in the metal scene and their favoured felines. She soon set to work capturing these endearingly enamoured owners and their pets on film. The results are brilliantly unique and unexpected..."
-AnOther

"Amonumentally awesome series"
-Huffington Post

"Aside from the entertainment value, the book also serves a great cause"
-Spin

"Combination of something fluffy and something hardcore"
-Examiner.com

"Black leather, spikes and tattoos Check. Creepy and/or scary-sounding band name Check. Adorable little kitty cat on your shoulder Check!"
-Guitar World

Author Bio

Alexandra Crockett, a musician, zinester and jewelry designer, has been present and active in the metal community since age 15 and is currently finishing up a doctoral degree in the Bay Area. Beginning her idea for the book by doing promotional photos for bands and friends she would cat-sit for, she found an interesting dynamic between men in the metal scene and their cats. The idea formed around giving accolades to local musicians and artists in the metal scene, while also bringing attention to no-kill shelters and their importance for animal rights.
